                                           How To Cope In Times Like This



            The truth is that life will not remain as it used to be before the pandemic psychologically, socially,
spiritually and physically due to the obvious and not-so-obvious effects of the pandemic.
The major Psychosocial fallout of this period (due to issues such as loss of loved ones,financial crisis,marital crisis,loss of job etc)
are:


Depression
• Anxiety 
• Fear 
• Suicide 
Worsening of pre-existing mental health disorders such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD),
substance abuse disorder, anxiety disorder etc., worsening of domestic, sexual and child abuse. 
Loss of what is left of human and/or communal trust and/or life due to the long period of 
isolation would be encouraged in different forms.



          Therefore, a totally new approach must be employed to cope with these fallouts.



To cope with the psycho-social fallout of this period, the following have to be deployed:



1. Talk to a mental health professional regularly because you cannot deal with a life crisis
that threatens your survival or has the potential to. It is important, hence, its number
one position.This helps to prevent the graduation of mental distress to mental health disorders.
2. Self motivational talking skill.
  For example,you can tell yourself things like "Ayo(put your name) the pandemic is a global problem...efforts are being put in place to deal adequately with it"
"Ayo,calm down,you are going to come out of this period with joy and excitement" etc
3. Talk with others i.e. return of social/communal lifestyle which was lost due to the double-
edged internet services.
4. Have a sense of purpose (spiritual health).
  You should be able to use the 4Ps of purpose discovery to know what your life purpose is .
a. People
What do people say about me ?
What do people thank me for ?
b. Problems
What are the recurrent life problems that I have been having over the years that has refused to go ?
c.Pass success rates
What are those things I do with ease but others struggle at it ?
What do I do and I feel on top of the world ?
d. Passion
What am I passionate about ?
What societal problem keeps me awake all night ?
If I were to choose only one developmental project for the society before I die  ...what would that be?
5. Set goals in all aspects of your life that your mind agrees with marital, parental,
professional, etc. goals.
6. Good diet, adequate sleep, regular physical exercise, avoid alcohol, reduce caffeine and
junks.
7. Avoid or reduce the time you allocate to updates on the pandemic so as to maintain a stable mental health.
8. Cultivate the habit of Thanksgiving.You can look for a smooth  beautiful stone and put it in your pocket.Tell yourself that each time I bring out this stone out of my pocket I will say or list 5-10 things that I'm grateful for.This really works It's been proven over and over again.

       These will lead to good physical health because good emotional well-being and good diet lead to good immunity,resistance to sickness and disease as well as long life.


Recommendations



1. All health professionals (especially mental health professionals) need to reposition
themselves and their services to meet needs associated with the present and future
mental health issues.
2. Pharmacists should take the bold step to work on herbal drugs. Of course, the price of
doing that will have to be made.
3. The populace need to increase their awareness of mental health and its importance
through all available media
 4. The government needs to provide an enabling economic and legal environment for
pharmacists to commence research on herbal medicine and continued use of orthodox
medicine.
